Third of December is International Day of People with Disabilities. Delta Cultura Cabo Verde used this occasion to organize together with regional and national institutions numberous activities with people with disabilities at the Education Center Tarrafal. Inclusion of people with disabilities is a topic in Cape Verde but far from reality. Especially in the country side people with disabilities are still locked away. Partly because of shame, partly out of ignorance, but also simply because of lack of facilities for these people.
The activities were marked by games with the disabled, a debate on inclusion of people with disabilities, food for the more than 200 attendees and of course a Batuco performance of our Batukadinhas.
It was a very successful event, all participants were satisfied, but of course, with an annual event the inclusion of people with disabilities is not accomplished. In Cape Verde there is still a lot of work to do in this sense. Delta Cultura Cabo Verde will therefore continue more regularly with educational activities that support the inclusion of people with disabilities.
