Today, our portuguese volunteer Ines gave her first lesson of ballet to a group of girls at the center. As she started dancing ballet as a kid, she could share her wide experience and skills. Cabo Verde has its own musical tradition, sometimes different according to the island. For example in Santiago, funana and batuque belong to the culture badiu. In fact, boys and girls are used to dance since childhood and are actually pretty talented : they feel the vibe, they got the move. However, comparing to the sensuality and someways brutality of funana or batuque, ballet is raising women for their elegance and sensitivity. Those lessons are not only an opportunity to try out a new style of dance for the children, but mostly a means of cultural exchange.
