Opening of the new Tarrafal Football for Hope Centre

pf_2By the end of 2011 Delta Cultura Cabo Verde was selected by FIFA as one of 20 organizations in Africa to get a so called Football for Hope Centre. Past Saturday, on the 22nd of June 2013 the Tarrafal Football for Hope Centre opened its doors! The 40x20m artificial turf with its solar floodlights and the 100m2 building consisting of a multi-purpose room and a library / computer room was inaugurated. The fact that the building was not all finished yet did not detract from the success of the event. Delta Cultura had the honor to welcome many international and national guests: the Cape Verdean Minister of Education Mrs. Fernanda Marques, the FIFA Delegate for West Africa Mr. Sampon Kablan, Network Director of streetfootballworld Mr. Vladimir Borkovic, the mayor of Tarrafal Mr. José Pedro Nunes Soares, the president of the Cape Verdean Football Federation Mr. Mario Semedo and many more. These personalities together with Florian Wegenstein from Delta Cultura were the main responsibles for the official opening with its speeches and everything that makes part of an opening ceremony. The really important conversations happened at the following lunch though. Everything from small-talk to philosophies about social change the world needs was talked about. The final cultural program completed and finished the opening ceremony. Delta Cultura Cabo Verde would like to use this opportunity to thank all involved partners who made this opening of the new infrastructure possible: FIFA and its partners, streetfootballworld, Architecture for Humanity, Greenfields and Yingli Solar. Delta Cultura is aware of the importance and of the new opportunities and the benefits for the children and youths of Tarrafal that these facilities will bring. Besides the football activities that can take place after dark now as well, Delta Cultura is proud to be able to offer access to important and vital information in the new so called research department of the Tarrafal Football for Hope Centre.
