June 2002

Founded in Austria

Delta Cultura has its origins in Austria, where the association was founded in June 2002 under the name Delta Culture – Association for Intercultural Communication. The founders were Estela Amarilia Cabral Correia (called Marisa – today project manager of the education center) and Florian Wegenstein (now project manager of the education center). Liz Zimmermann, who is still the chairwoman of the Delta Cultura Austria association, was also there from the beginning.

2002-2003

First activities in Tarrafal

Our first activities in Tarrafal started in 2002 with the founding of a soccer school for street children. A year later, in 2003, the Batuco group Batukaderas Delta Cultura was formed.

2004

Delta Cultura in Cape Verde

In 2004, with the first major funding applications, it became necessary to register Delta Cultura as an independent association in Cape Verde. The first chairwoman was the co-founder Marisa.

2009

Founding of Delta Cultura in Germany

In 2009, Vanessa Farhang spent six months at the Tarrafal Education Center as an intern. After her return to Germany, she founded the Delta Cultura eV association in Bonn. She is still the first chairwoman today.

2021

Expansion into Switzerland

In 2021, Natalina, Marisa and Florian’s daughter, moved to Switzerland and founded Delta Cultura Switzerland there.

Today

Education Center and Fundraising

Today, Delta Cultura Cabo Verde operates the education center, while Delta Cultura collects donations and organizes fundraising activities in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
